As I noted in a previous post, Bug Zappers are heavily marketed to the public as a way to kill mosquitoes. Some of them have catchy names with catchy advertising. For example, the bug zapper in the ad below is sold “down under” and called the “Gecko” after a lizard known to hang about lights and feed on the insects attracted to the light. The allusion is apt. The quality of mosquito control provided by geckos and the Gecko are probably comparable. The advertising uses the Johann Strauss tune, Blue Danube as the CGI mosquitoes swarm the Gecko and waltz into its electric arc.
